In terms of quality of life, it is tops in Asia and No. 32 in the world, according to the annual Mercer Human Resource Consulting survey in 2008.
Survey criteria included political, social, economic and environmental factors, as well as personal safety, health, education, transport and other public services. According to United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) index, Singapore is the 23rd most desirable country to live in worldwide.
Crime rates are low, with Singapore ranked the safest city in the Asia-Pacific by Mercer (2008). Healthcare standards are high, with about 1 doctor to every 625 persons in 2008. Singapore has also acquired a reputation for being a medical hub for South-east Asia.
